poem: Grim Reaper

Grim Reaper

This very evening I was
the only one to notice
the Grim Reaper
standing in a planted field
facing a patch of woods
off to the side of
a stretch of highway
where numerous souls
in expensive metal
pass him unaware
of his quiet presence
I would have
rather traveled
by horse or on foot
so that I might have
stopped to question Death
of what he's doing
on that toiled land,
why so suddenly
he took my friend
and how soon might
I see him again?
