poem: still

still

i can see you and
how the lines of your face
are highlighted by the
brilliance on the screen
it is late and the house is quiet
except for your fingers
pushing keys unlocking thoughts
as they follow one after the other
chasing a story that is growing
in the garden of your mind
i want to lay there
hidden in the grass
parting it with patient hands
to watch you
ever taken by surprise
at the butterflies in my belly
and how they still rise
and how they still rise.
