paper heart and pen

poem: it is in that awful rowing

it is in that awful rowing

first, lunch with a friend
to review and revise her
latest book of poems.

afterward, she will lock
herself in the garage and
start the engine of her car.

it is in that awful rowing where
she will drown in such tasteless,
odorless, toxic gas - oh, lost oar -

suicidal swimmer swept up, no shore.
