poem: outside / inside

outside / inside

saw the sunshine shadow on the brick wall
splash the woodsy surface of
chipped paint window frames

thought of going outside to feel the warmth
to see the people in sandals, suntanning in
summer shorts and sunshades

thought of sand sifting between toes
sitting on a concrete pier to watch
sailboats in springtime

instead of staying inside observing
sun's shadow dissipate to the point
of the horizon line

or some other unattainable distance.
