Writer's Block: Table for One

Do you ever go out to dinner (at a sit-down restaurant) by yourself?

Yep! And why not?

The most recent time was on the 29th of January after my appointment. I was hungry, feeling distressed and I wanted to sit down to have something nice. It was likely the last time I'll be able to do that for awhile but I enjoyed it. I read a book, ate my food and left.

I've done this several times - taken myself out for dinner. For one thing, I don't like fast food much and a sit-down restaurant has more appealing choices, as well as a comfortable atmosphere. Also, I've lived alone a long time so this isn't a big deal. I was taking myself out to the movies after work several times a week at one point and it was great. If there's no one to go out with me somewhere, why can't I still get a decent meal or take in a show?

Now, I won't be able to do either of those things because I've got to watch my pennies. I'm paying rent with a very low income at the moment. If this changes, I'll likely go out to dinner again on my own, especially if I have the money to do so, and heck yeah I'll take myself to the movies, too. Sure, it can be looked at as wasteful spending and indulgence but only from a financial viewpoint. It's not spoiling yourself to do the things you enjoy just because there isn't anyone to share those things with. In fact, sometimes it's most enjoyable because there's no one else there.

As for this 'table for one' stuff, the only reason why I may decide not to take myself out to a restaurant when I have the cash would be that I've finally decided to cook for myself at home.

And that would be a rare treat indeed.
