From my 100 Things list:
I started posting to this journal on April 5th, 2001. (first entry)
The person who introduced me to LiveJournal* was winterchylde who I met through Yahoo! Poetry Clubs. He gave me an invite code because prior to LJ, I was on mydeardiary.com & it was kind of lame. It was very limited (one couldn't delete entries at the time or customize, among other restrictive things) so it was a nice switch for me.
I've stayed on LJ ever since.
When I first started posting entries online, I wrote mostly for myself. I say mostly because I was aware of a few people who would read me from time to time. The majority of my writings were more present back then and I was less caught up in presentation & the audience. In other words, I was less out to impress & more about letting the words flow forth. This was both a good and a bad thing. Personally, I like the evolution of my journal but I do miss writing with less of a filter, with more in the moment observations and yes, I even miss the ramblings.
I'm thankful for the friends list (the comings & goings - the connections) and the communities. I've met and become close to people I otherwise never would have and to me, that makes staying with the site worth the drama, corporate changes & glitchy times.
* P.S. I filled out an LJ quiz/meme back in 2004 - some of the answers are still relevant, others, not so much.
